Household Water Well Assistance Program
The Pocono Northeast RC&D Council is unveiling the Household Water Well Assistance Program which will be able to provide assistance to homeowners residing within the Council area. The program is designed to provide education and outreach, technical assistance, and financial assistance to low to moderate income households in rural areas that have a documented problem with their household water well.
Homeowners are strongly encouraged to attend one of a series of four workshops being held throughout the RC&D Council area about private water wells. The workshops will focus on the relationship between geology and hyrdology on groundwater, basics on well construction, water quality of wells, and explanation of the RC&D Household Water Well Assistance Program.
The program has the ability to provide financial assistance through very low interest loans at a rate of 1% for a lending term up to a maximum of 20 years. The loans are available to low to moderate income households located in rural areas within the RC&D Council area. The low interest loans can be used to service, repair, or upgrade their existing household water well including new well construction, if necessary.
Application packets for the program will be available March 1, 2011 through the RC&D Council website, by contacting the Council directly, or attending one of the four workshops. Applications will begin to be evaluated beginning April 25th and will continue until the funding available for the program has been completely loaned out.
