This year’s Northeast PA Grazing Conference will be held at
the Harford Hose Company in Harford, PA, Susquehanna County. The lineup of
exceptional speakers at this year’s conference includes Cliff
Hawbaker, owner & operator of Hamilton Heights Dairy and Emerald Valley
Dairy in Franklin County, Pa. Cliff will bring to us his experiences
with grazing dairy cows in PA on a large scale. He will also give us a
glance at some of the unique energy reduction strategies that have been
implemented on his farms recently. Hamilton Heights Dairy consists of about
300 milking cows and the satellite dairy Emerald Valley milks 120 cows with
a combined total of about 800 head including young stock. Pamela
Delinger founder of Solair Energy Inc. will be discussing
with us how to conserve energy on the farm and explaining what is an energy
audit and how can it help us. Solair Energy is a private energy
conservation and renewable energy company located in northern Lycoming
County. In today’s economic position every little bit of energy we can
save on the farm will help to make us more ready to face a future of rising
energy prices. Many times we look at how to save energy on farms but we are
looking at field work activities. Pamela has some great ideas and
technologies that can help us address our on farm energy use (around the
barn and farmstead). Last but not least we will have Ed Konkle of
AgriCulviar Seeds talk with us about pasture seedings and forage
varieties available for graziers to take advantage of in the coming growing
season. Ed has a long history and a great deal of experience and expertise
in the forage seeds business and we can’t wait for him to pass along some of
his knowledge.
